Project Planning Mastery: Leveling Up Our Impact

If there was one session that captured the spirit of GO BIG 2026 in February, it was the Project Planning and Management Training held on February 28, 2026, at the Edward Hagedorn City Coliseum Media Room. More than just another seminar, it was a practical workshop on how to turn big ideas into executable, sustainable, and measurable projects that answer real needs in Palawan.

The training walked participants through the JCI project lifecycle: assess community needs, design with clear objectives, plan realistic timelines and budgets, implement with partners, and evaluate with data and testimonials. This flow directly mirrors the JCI Action Framework—need, plan, execute, evaluate—which is also embedded in the LO’s official workflows for proposals and impact assessments. Members were challenged not only to think of “nice to have” activities, but to define specific beneficiaries, SDG alignment, and success indicators before they even request board approval.​

A key message of the day was simple but demanding: projects should outlive events. Facilitators emphasized that JCI Puerto Princesa Oil must prioritize initiatives that can be replicated, scaled, or embedded in communities via partners, rather than one-off activities. This mindset connects directly to the LO’s flagship programs in food security, DRRM, inclusivity for PWDs, and youth development—all structured as long-term platforms rather than isolated outreach days.

Participants also reflected on what it means to move from “just attending” to actually leading. The training echoed the LO’s recruitment reels that ask, “Ready to stop just attending events and start leading?” and then offer clear next steps on how to do so. Many first- and second-year members left with draft project concepts ready to refine and pitch, while more seasoned members saw opportunities to mentor new project chairs.​

By the end of the session, project planning was no longer an abstract concept. Members had concrete tools—proposal templates, budgeting guides, and impact assessment forms—to support their next initiatives. For a chapter that aims to be Palawan’s primary leadership hub for 18–40-year-olds, mastering project planning is not a luxury; it is the backbone of GO BIG 2026.
